Naughty Dog has officially unveiled new content coming to the No Return mode in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, just ahead of the game’s highly anticipated PC release. With new maps, characters, and additional trophies, both PC and PlayStation 5 players have fresh challenges to look forward to in this roguelike survival experience.
No Return Mode Expands With Maps and Characters
Originally exclusive to the PS5 remaster released in 2024, No Return mode delivers randomized encounters across familiar locations from the base game. With the upcoming update, this mode is set to grow significantly — enriching replayability for veterans and newcomers alike.
Four New Locations Join the Fray
The upcoming patch will introduce four new combat zones for players to test their survival instincts:
- Overlook — A tense Seraphite-held area overlooking a canyon.
- School — A war-torn location featuring Ellie and Dina’s intense battle with the W.L.F.
- Streets — Inspired by the Hillcrest neighborhood, known for its tight corners and ambush potential.
- Nest — A dark and dangerous building overrun with Infected, reminiscent of Abby’s solo journey.
These new arenas are designed to shake up familiar play patterns and encourage a wider variety of strategies, especially when paired with the new character loadouts.
Bill and Marlene Join as Playable Characters
Two new survivors enter the No Return roster, each bringing distinct abilities and challenges to the table:
- Bill (Smuggler Style) — Armed with a modified pump-action shotgun found in dead drops, Bill receives double rewards and boasts enhanced resistance to melee damage. However, he cannot dodge incoming attacks, demanding a more methodical approach.
- Marlene (Risk-Taker Style) — Equipped with a custom assault rifle and a set of “All or Nothing” perks, Marlene’s playstyle rewards high-risk choices. She also has a unique ability to reroute her No Return path once per run, offering strategic flexibility.
These additions offer more tactical depth and variety, aligning well with the unpredictable nature of the mode’s roguelike mechanics.
New Trophies and Patch Coming to PS5 and PC
Alongside the PC release of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on April 3, PlayStation 5 players will receive a free patch containing all the newly announced No Return content. This includes:
- New maps and characters
- Additional No Return trophies
- Bug fixes and performance improvements
This ensures both PC and console players will be able to enjoy the same expanded experience without missing out.
