Movement-Based Mount Summoning Is Finally Here

During the most recent Letter from the Producer LIVE broadcast, director and producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that the upcoming patch — titled Seekers of Eternity — will introduce the ability for players to call their mounts while in motion. This new feature applies to any area where mounting is already permitted, including both PvE and PvP zones.

Overcoming a Decade of Muscle Memory

Previously, players had to stand still for the mount summon animation to complete successfully — a process that only took one second but could easily be interrupted by accidental movement. Now, with Patch 7.2, players can begin summoning while running, with no need to pause their momentum. Yoshida acknowledged that this will be a significant change to gameplay habits developed over the past decade, but encouraged players to embrace the improved mobility and fluidity it offers.

The mount update isn’t the only movement-focused feature in Patch 7.2. Square Enix is also introducing a new passive buff called Jog, which enhances player movement speed once Sprint wears off. Jog appears to provide a modest speed boost without any manual activation or visible duration timer.

How Jog Works

  • Activates automatically after Sprint ends
  • Functions in cities, open zones, and instances
  • Deactivates during combat
