World of Warcraft’s long-awaited Horrific Visions Revisited has finally launched—but it comes with restrictions that are already frustrating players. Released nearly a month after Patch 11.1.5, the feature adds revamped versions of the Battle for Azeroth-era scenarios with new rewards, achievements, and companions. However, issues with timegating and unintended difficulty scaling are leaving many fans disappointed.
What Is Horrific Visions Revisited?
Blizzard reintroduced Horrific Visions as part of Patch 11.1.5, offering players a fresh take on the challenge-focused content from the Battle for Azeroth expansion. With updated cosmetic rewards and an achievement-based progression system, the feature encourages repeat participation. However, players eager to unlock everything right away are in for a wait.
Three-Week Timegate Limits Access to Rewards
One of the key mechanics of the activity, the Hourglass of Horrific Visions, allows players to research upgrades that improve their performance in these runs. Unfortunately, players can only earn a limited number of Echoes of N’Zoth—the currency used for these upgrades—each week. As a result, it will take at least three weeks to fully unlock the Hourglass tree and earn the We Have the Memories achievement, a requirement for purchasing many of the new rewards.
Soridormi Construct Adds Difficulty Instead of Help
Compounding player frustration, the new companion NPC—the Construct of Soridormi—appears to increase challenge rather than alleviate it. According to reports from players and data from Wowhead, bringing Soridormi along nearly doubles enemy health inside Horrific Visions, even without activating difficulty-enhancing Masks. This punishes solo players who might otherwise use the Construct to compensate for lack of group support.
Key Rewards Currently Locked Behind Progression
The following high-demand rewards are currently unavailable until players unlock sufficient upgrades:
- Corruption of the Aspects mount.
- Scourge of the Aspects pet.
- Wicked Swarmer mount.
- Black Serpent of N’Zoth mount.
- Vision Manipulator’s Vestments (cloth transmog set).
- Garb of the Insatiable Vision (leather transmog set).
- Vision Tormentor’s Battlekit (mail transmog set).
- Malignant Vision’s Battleplate (plate transmog set).
Patch 11.1.5 Continues a Troubled Trend
This isn’t the first setback for Patch 11.1.5. Many features have launched with delays, bugs, or extended progression blocks. Game Director Ion Hazzikostas recently acknowledged player frustration, stating the team would “do better next time,” but that promise is already being tested by the issues with Horrific Visions Revisited.
Community Waiting for Blizzard’s Response
Despite player complaints and known issues reported during the Public Test Realm phase, Blizzard has yet to confirm whether hotfixes or changes are on the way. Many fans are hoping for:
- An increase in weekly Echoes of N’Zoth to reduce the timegate.
- Fixes or tuning adjustments to the Soridormi Construct’s difficulty scaling.
- Clear communication via blog or blue post addressing community concerns.
Looking Ahead
While the return of Horrific Visions has brought back nostalgic content with new flair, the current implementation feels more like a test of patience than skill. With top-tier cosmetics and achievements locked behind weekly progression, players are left wondering whether Blizzard will revise the system or leave it as-is. For now, those diving into the madness of N’Zoth will need to plan around delays—and avoid the Construct of Soridormi unless they’re ready for a challenge.
